Gli sloveni Širom, Iztok Koren, Samo Kutin e Ana Kravanj, suonano un folk “immaginario” e “proveniente da un universo parallelo” come amano dire loro stessi; o un “folk che sembra folk ma non lo è”, come ha scritto qualcun altro. D’altronde è già detto tutto nel loro nome: in sloveno širom significa “andare lontano” e “dappertutto” e questa ampiezza semantica rende bene l’idea di una musica in movimento, capace di cogliere e intrecciare modi e influenze eterogenee, riportando la molteplicità a sintesi. Nel repertorio del trio trova espressione un corpo sonoro vastissimo che non solo attinge alla tradizione (viola, ocarina, mizmar, ribab, daf, balafon, guembri, banjo, ghironda, liuto, tambura brač, carillon) ma si avvale anche di oggetti autocostruiti. A dispetto di tale ricchezza strumentale, il sound rimane minimalista e ha un che di sciamanico, muovendosi nella dialettica tra oscurità e luce, mistero e rivelazione. Le loro performance sono magnetiche e coinvolgono gli ascoltatori in un’esperienza rituale, potente e immersiva. “The liquified throne of simplicity” (uscito nel 2022 per Tak:til / Glitterbeat) è il terzo  disco dell’anno per Blow Up e top 50 del 2022 per Rumore ed è finito in tantissime playlist di addetti ai lavori.

Slovenia’s Širom, Iztok Koren, Samo Kutin and Ana Kravanj, play a folk “imaginary” and “from a parallel universe” as they like to say themselves; or a “folk that sounds like folk but isn’t” as someone else wrote. Besides, everything is already said in their name: in Slovenian širom means “to go far” and “everywhere” and this semantic breadth renders well the idea of a music on the move, capable of capturing and interweaving heterogeneous modes and influences, bringing multiplicity back to synthesis. A vast body of sound finds expression in the trio’s repertoire, which not only draws on tradition (viola, ocarina, mizmar, ribab, daf, balafon, guembri, banjo, hurdy-gurdy, lute, tambura brač, music box) but also makes use of self-made objects. In spite of such instrumental richness, the sound remains minimalist and has a shamanic quality, moving in the dialectic between darkness and light, mystery and revelation. Their performances are magnetic and engage listeners in a ritualistic, powerful and immersive experience. “The Liquified Throne of Simplicity”” (released in 2022 by Tak:til / Glitterbeat) is 3rd record of the year for Blow Up and top 50 of 2022 for Noise and ended up on so many insiders’ playlists.
